Before the screening of “Remembering the Children,” Knowledge Keeper Tanya Ward-Schur will offer a blessing of the land acknowledgement plaque and gathering space, followed by Mayor Jamie Hoover’s reading of the new land acknowledgement.
The Town of Blackfalds presents a powerful screening of Remembering the Children, a film that sheds light on the history and impact of Residential Schools.
For over a century, Indigenous children were taken from their families and placed in institutions designed to erase their culture. The Red Deer Indian Industrial School was among the deadliest. This film honours the survivors and those who never returned, while exploring the ongoing effects of trauma and the path toward healing and cultural renewal.
