Access & Privacy

The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) was officially repealed by the Alberta government on June 11, 2025.

In its place, two new pieces of legislation have been proclaimed that govern access and privacy for public bodies. They are the Access to Information Act and the Protection of Privacy Act.

Much like their predecessor, these Acts aim to strike a balance between an individual’s right to privacy and the public’s right to know. The Town of Blackfalds recognizes this delicate balance and complies with the provisions of both Acts.

While supporting the principle of transparency, we take the privacy of our citizens seriously. Every effort is made to protect your privacy when we collect, use and disclose personal information.
