Blackfalds Opens Mural Trail Photo Contest

In the Spring of 2026, the Town of Blackfalds launched the Highway 2A Mural Trail Scavenger Hunt, introducing a journey through three of the vibrant communities along the highway that feature historic murals; Red Deer, Blackfalds, and Lacombe.

Throughout the summer, families, visitors, artists, and history buffs were encouraged to take the journey to the three communities and enjoy the hidden gems of art!

Now we invite everyone to participate in the Mural Trail Photo Contest!  

“The Mural Trail has become a unique attraction that encourages people to discover the character, history, and creativity of the three communities,” shared Blackfalds Economic Development Officer Peter McGee. “We’re hoping that this photo contest continues to get everyone to explore the Highway 2A corridor but also share the moments and murals that inspire them along the way.”

Take the tour before the cold weather arrives and snap some photos along the way. Photos can be submitted through the app during the tour until September 30. The photos submitted will then be reviewed and the top three photos will be shared for a public vote!

The winning photo will take home a locally curated gift basket valued around $250, with mixture of gift cards and products from Blackfalds businesses and organizations.

The Mural Trail Photo Contest will open September 1 and close September 30.
