The Municipal Government Act (MGA) requires every municipality to prepare and adopt a Municipal Development Plan (MDP), which is a high-level, long-range planning document that sets the vision, goals, and policies for how a municipality will grow and develop over a 20-30 year time frame.
These plans ensure orderly, sustainable, and financially responsible growth within a community and provides predictability for residents, developers, and decision-makers.
The Town of Blackfalds' MDP was established in 2009 and we all know how much Blackfalds has grown since then! Town Council and Administration is eager to update the MDP to better reflect Blackfalds as it is today, and how it will be in the next few decades.
This MDP Review is a multi-year project that has been divided up into several phases, and is anticipated to wrap up by fall of 2029.
In order to do this, we need feedback, expertise, and engagement from residents, businesses, organizations, and everyone in between to help us understand what the future of Blackfalds looks like. There will be various opportunities throughout the duration of this MDP Review to provide input.
